Who Built the Oscars Photo Booth?
The Oscars photo booth used backstage at the 98th Academy Awards was designed and built by The Flash Pack.
Created for the Academy’s social team, the installation was designed as a new backstage capture moment for Oscar winners. The booth allowed winners to step inside with their statuette and capture a classic four frame photo booth sequence while hidden cameras recorded candid reactions and behind the scenes footage.
Alongside social media content capture, the system also recorded full body still photography used for the Academy’s official archival portraits of each winner.
In short, the Oscars photo booth combined a familiar experience with a sophisticated multi camera capture system designed specifically for the Academy Awards backstage environment.

Why a Classic Photo Booth Was Exactly What the Oscars Needed
Backstage at the Academy Awards moves incredibly quickly.
Oscar winners step off stage and move immediately into interviews, press photography and broadcast moments. Every step of that journey is tightly choreographed.
Any experience placed in that environment needs to work instantly. There is no time for explanation.
The Academy’s social team approached us with an open brief: create a new backstage moment for Oscar winners that could generate engaging social content while also preserving the tradition of capturing official photography for the Academy archives.
The solution needed to feel natural, effortless and worth the time.
Our answer was simple.
Bring back the photo booth.

A Familiar Moment for Oscar Winners
The photo booth format works because it is universally understood.
Step inside. Close the curtain. Take a sequence of photographs.
That familiarity makes it perfect for an environment like the Oscars backstage area, where winners have only seconds to engage with something new.
For many winners, the booth creates a brief pocket of privacy immediately after leaving the stage. A moment to celebrate with their Oscar before heading into interviews.
Those few seconds often produce something far more valuable than a posed photograph: genuine reactions.
Relief. Laughter. Celebration.
The kind of moments audiences love to see.

Designing an Oscars Worthy Photo Booth
While the experience feels simple to the guest, the installation itself was carefully engineered.
The bespoke Academy Awards photo booth features gold leaf finishes, brass metal trim and real glass panels designed to feel elegant and permanent within the Oscars backstage environment.
Behind a large two way mirror sits the technology powering the experience.
Multiple hidden cameras capture the classic photo booth imagery alongside candid video moments inside the booth. Additional cameras positioned outside record winners approaching and leaving.
Together these layers allow the Academy’s social team to transform a short backstage moment into shareable social content for a global audience.

From the Oscars to Events and Venues Around the World
The same thinking behind the Oscars photo booth powers The Flash Pack’s installations in attractions, live events and venues around the world.
Some are large scale content capture installations. Others are permanent revenue share photo booths installed in venues at no cost to the operator.
But they all share the same principle: creating photo experiences that produce beautiful, social ready content people genuinely want to share.
