Instagram is nine years old!

Starting as a photo-sharing app in 2010 with the humble intention of ‘facilitating communication through images’ the platform is now ingrained in our culture, boasting over 1 billion monthly active users sharing almost 9 million photos and videos each day.

To celebrate we’ve selected nine of our favourite Instagram accounts that you should be following right now:

1) @schultzschultzgrafik – 38.2k Followers

 

Frankfurt-based design studio Schultzschultz use their Instagram account as a visual playground to showcase their latest digital experiments.

If you’re into bold typographic animations and processing tool sketches this is the place to get your daily graphic fix.

2) @dirkkoy – 60.8k Followers

 

Experimental film maker and motion graphics artist Dirk Koy creates dizzying video collages and space-warping animations.

Fragmented and dreamline, his disoreintating work forces the viewer to question their expectations of perspective and focus.

 

3) @kellyannalondon – 24.9k Followers

 

Kelly Anna is an artist and print designer with a bold, distintive style. Her work often features atheltic figures in motion, graphic shapes and primary colour palettes.

From T-Shirt designs to large-scale murals, her playful yet sophisticated feed will keep you scrolling for hours.

4) @i_weigh – 870k Followers

 

The tides are changing and I Weigh isn’t riding the wave, it IS the wave. Founded by Jameela Jamil – Actor, Presenter and Activist – the account promotes radical inclusivity and rejects societies ideals of image.

What started as one unapologetic message to Instagram has snowballed into a movement, empowering others to do the same. Follow for powerful stories, un-retouched images and inspirational quotes.

5) @girlvscancer – 42.9k Followers

 

Following her diagnosis in her early 30s, and fed up with the perception of cancer being a diesease that only affects the over fifties, Lauren Mahon decided to share her battle with the world under the hashtag #GIRLvsCANCER.

From a space to share her story from a small corner of the web to an established community of supportive, like-minded people, the account has evolved into a place ‘for fierce women affected by the cretin that is cancer to feel empowered to deal with the sh*t show that a cancer diagnosis means.’

6) @johnny_fpv – 408k Followers

 

Drone Racing and FPV (first person view) Freestyle are some of the fastest growing sports on the planet and Johnny Schaer at the top of his game.

His immense piloting skills enable him to push his drones to the limits, capturing some of the most cinematic videos we’ve ever seen.

7) @katemoross – 56.6k Followers

 

Kate Moross is an award winning art director, illustrator and graphic designer. A techniclour feed of dreams, Kate’s account features a smorgasbord of work spanning across artistic direction, moving imagery, hand drawn typography and playful illustrations.
